Stockport Plaza will be presenting two very rare Gracie Fields films: ‘This Week of Grace (1933)’ and ‘Keep Smiling (1938)’, on Friday July 8th 2016
(Click on the film title to go to the film page).
At our suggestion, The Plaza have agreed to show these two extremely rare Gracie films, during what is going to be a very exciting and busy year for Gracie tributes – and where better to enjoy these 1930s gems other than this 1930s super-cinema? Perfect!
These ultra-rare films have never been commercially released. The newly restored print of ‘This Week of Grace’ has only been shown once, at an event at the British Film Institute in 2011 and ‘Keep Smiling’ was last shown by the BFI in 1998 during Gracie’ Centenary year.
So this is a very rare chance to see these ultra-rare films.
Before the showing of these films, The Dame Gracie Fields Appreciation Society’s President, Mr. Seb. Lassandro, will presenting a talk on the life and works of Dame Gracie Fields with specific focus on these two films –including unpublished research, rare behind-the-scenes photographs and even home-made rehearsal footage. This will be during an ‘Afternoon Tea’ session, from 6pm, where you can enjoy a tea, scones and sandwiches, and learn something new about Britain’s greatest ever female Variety star.
